KATHMANDU, Dec 22: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has sought clarification from the chairperson and director of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Chitwan over several complaints related to hospital management.
After a committee formed to look into the complaints against the hopsital submitted its report to the ministry, Health Minister Gagan Thapa decided to seek clarification from Chairman Dr Prakash Raj Giri and Executive Director Dr Chin Bahadur Pun, according to MoH sources.

The ministry has sought clarifications over various complaints including the hospital administration's failure to mobilize human resources effectively, lack of maintenance of the medical equipment, delay in the procurement of medical equipment, financial irregularities, hospital waste, and environment concerns among other things.
“We have issued a letter asking the hospital to submit clarification within three days,” said Ram Krishna Lamichhane, undersecretary at the MoH.
A report submitted by a team of Dr Dipendra Raman Singh about a month ago revealed that the doctors and health workers at cancer hospital were found working in other places, there was Rs 300 million in unsettled accounts, and service delivery in the hospital was ineffective.
Meanwhile, the MoH has also directed the health workers across the country to show caring and responsible approach to the patients and those accompanying them. Minister Thapa directed after the complaints were filed. The health workers are urged to wear apron, gown and hold ID cards during their duty. “The hospitals should maintain time table of hospitals, check-up schedule and doctors presence,” said the MoH sources.
