KATHMANDU, June 23: A journalist working for the Nagarik Daily, Pavitra Sunar has been awarded with this year's National Health award.
The award was established by Sudarshan Sharda Devkota Memorial Foundation in collaboration with Health Journalists Forum Nepal. Sudha Devkota handed the award to Sunar. The award carries a purse of Rs 30,000.

Dr Devkota said health journalists have a big role to play in protecting the public from any disease. "The main thing is that health journalism contributes to the public health sector," she said. On the occasion, Bhawani Prasad Khapung, Minister of State for Health and Population of Nepal, recalled the contribution made by health journalists in disseminating health news during the COVID-19 pandemic. "Even in developed countries, there is a lot of humanitarian damage, we seem to have less damage," he said.
Umesh Chauhan, Editor of Kantipur Daily, who was the guest of the program, urged the health journalists to raise health issues related to human life. "There is no work for rewards, we have to move forward on the path of rewards from work," he said. On the occasion, chairman of the Health Journalists Forum, Ram Prasad Neupane said that the award would be continued as it would give more encouragement to the journalists. Tej Kumar Bastola of the foundation said that the award would be continued by establishing a revolving fund. "We will work closely with the Health Journalists Forum to encourage active journalists," he said.
