NDA Women’s Volleyball to start from January second week

KATHMANDU, Dec 21: The second edition of the New Diamond Open Women’s Volleyball Tournament is set to start from the second week of January, said New Diamond Academy on Thursday. 


The organizers at a press meet organized in Kathmandu announced that the four-day tournament will be played at the Dhorpatan Sports Training Center in Bus Park. 


The tournament coordinator Kumar Rai said that the event is going to be organized to study the abilities of the players and to search for new talents. “The prize money of the tournament has been increased for the relief of the participating teams,’’ Rai said. “Our aim is to develop new women players in volleyball. The tournament will help increase the confidence of the players.’’

The organizers also said that around six to seven teams are estimated to will take part in the tournament. 


So far, the participation of four teams has been confirmed. The confirmed teams are Armed Police Force (APF) Club, Tribhuvan Army Club, the host New Diamond Academy and Tops of Pokhara. 


The organizers further added that the estimated cost of the tournament is Rs 2.3 million. The winner will be rewarded with Rs 3.01 million, while the runner-up and the third-placed team will receive Rs 2.01 million and 1.01 million respectively. Also, the fourth-placed team will bag a cash prize of Rs 51,000.


Similarly, the best player of the tournament will get Rs 15,000, while the best spiker, the best kicker, the best setter, the best server, the best defender and the best coach will be rewarded with Rs 5,000 each. 


It has also been said that the format of the tournament will be determined only after the participation of all the teams is fixed.
