NEPSE nosedives 22.14 points, while daily turnover declines to Rs 4.44 billion

KATHMANDU, May 26: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Sunday declined 22.14 points to close at 2,109.34 points.


The market opened at 2,131.49 points and showed a wide range of fluctuations within the first half an hour. The index first peaked to the day’s high at 2,142.49 points, while it then plunged to as low as 2,110.58 points before bouncing back again to 2,137.23 points. In the remaining trading hours, the index went to a downward graph and hit the day’s low at 2,107.59 points in the last 10 minutes. The market recovered only two points before it closed for the day.

The sensitive index that measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies also decreased 3.44 points. The daily turnover fell to Rs 4.44 billion from Rs 5.68 billion on Wednesday, the last trading day of the previous week.  


Only two groups including hotels and tourism, and mutual funds gained 177.64 points and 0.03 points, respectively. Out of the 11 losing groups, non-life insurance shed the highest of 111.40 points. 


Among individual companies, 29 were recorded as gainers whereas 215 were the losers.


IME Life Insurance Company Limited had the largest turnover of its shares worth Rs 156.61 million. Infinity Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited with a decline of 6.36 percent was the topmost loser. Kalinchowk Darshan Limited was the topmost gainer.
