NAWALPUR, Nov 23: With the 10th General Convention of the main opposition CPN-UML round the corner, efforts are on to ensure effective security to the program, especially to the inaugural and closing sessions.
More than 1,500 security personnel will be mobilized for the inaugural and closing sessions of the UML’s General Convention which is being held in Chitwan from November 26 to 28. The inaugural will however be held on the Narayani River bank.
In view of the inaugural, security situation has been beefed up in Nawalparasi East and Chitwan districts. The security chiefs in the districts said that additional security personnel had been demanded for the general convention. The security agencies in both districts are working in cooperation and coordination in this regard.

Major spots such as Gaindakot and Chitwan will have security personnel from Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force, and the National Investigation Department. Superintendent of Police at District Police Office Nawalparasi East, Prakash Malla, said the Province Office Pokhara had demanded an additional security force targeting the UML's 10th General Convention. The additional security force will arrive by Wednesday morning, he added.
The vehicles coming from the west will be stopped at Gaindakot and asked for parking on the banks of the Narayani River.
Similarly, Chief District Officer of Chitwan, Ashman Tamang, said that discussions were held with UML office-bearers in the district to manage the security situation and traffic.
