KATHMANDU, April 19: Appropriate and right counseling is needed for those suffering from mental problems, said psychiatrists at a program here today.
They shared this at a training session on the psychotherapy and psychodrama organised here jointly by the Psychic Desk Foundation, the School of Psychology Nepal (SPN) and Indian Institute of Psychodrama.

On the occasion, Dr Narendra Thagunna, president of the SPN, said counseling is needed to deal with different types of mental problems as most of them are treated without medicines. The training aims to produce skilled manpower in the field of mental health, he added. Dr Herb Propper, international trainer on psychodrama and Magdalene Jeyarathnam, director of the Indian Institute of Psychodrama were trainers for the three-day session that concluded on Thursday.
The total of 18 people took the training. According to the World Health Organisation, one in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. Around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions worldwide. In Nepal, around 20 percent of the people suffer from mental problems, according to available data.
