SARLAHI, Feb 10: The famous vegetable market of Lalbandi which has been extended to the East-West Highway has been blamed for increased traffic congestion and accidents on the highway. From the early morning to late evening, the highway seems full of vehicles carrying huge loads of vegetables. Unfortunately, that has increased traffic congestion on the highway.

According to District Traffic Police Office (DTPO), Sarlahi, the vegetable market has made it difficult for them to control the flow of traffic. Every morning, a large number of customers flock the Lalbandi vegetable market which encroaches upon the highway. This in turn has been a major obstruction for the traffic here. It has been a great challenge for the traffic police to manage the flow of vehicles due to the vegetable market, according to Inspector Kesharman Basnet of DTPO. “We have urged the municipality office to shift the market to somewhere else,” Basnet said.
As this traffic congestion can lead to accidents, police in recent days have shown more concern toward the problem. Man Bahadur Khadka, mayor of Lalbandi Municipality, said that efforts have been made to relocate the vegetable market to elsewhere. “This has not only obstructed the flow of vehicles but also damaged the look of the place,” said Khadka, adding, “We will relocate the market in the next 20 days.”
