10,000 take health insurance policy in Ilam

ILAM, April 29: Nearly 1,000 people have had their health insurance in Ilam district. A total of Rs 5.68 million in premium has been collected from the health insurance programme initiated from July 2016.

ILAM, April 29: Nearly 1,000 people have had their health insurance in Ilam district. A total of Rs 5.68 million in premium has been collected from the health insurance programme initiated from July 2016. 


The insurers have been receiving health care services in different primary health centres and hospitals based in Ilam, Jhapa and Kathmandu.

Hardik Sapkota, Manager of Social Health Development Committee, Ilam said that 3,098 people received health care services from District Hospital while 585 from Jhapa and 15 persons took health care services from Kathmandu. 


Sapkota, however, said that the insurance programme has not been started in Sakhejung, Soyang, Soyak, Jogmai, Panchakanya, Mangalbare, Irautar, Danabari and Sakphara areas for lack of registration assistants. He added that the insurance policy would be initiated soon after the local level elections in the remaining areas. 


A total of 52 registration assistants are working to collect the name of the locals for the health insurance programme in the district. 


Suryodaya Municipality has the highest number of insurers with 881 while Ilam Municipality and Deumai Municipality have 835 and 231 insured people, respectively. RSS
