KATHMANDU, Sept 4: A centenarian from Bhaktapur, Ganeshmaya Prajapati, has defeated coronavirus infection.
A native of Thimi, Prajapati was tested positive for the virus on September 18. Given her age, everyone in her family and community was worried but she tested negative for the virus on October 4, some 14 days after home isolation.
"I was a little nervous when I first heard the news. But the fear vanished later," said Prajapati, 101. "Patience and will power helped a great deal," she added.

Born in 1919 in Bhaktapur, Prajapati survived measles twice during her childhood. Except for this, she does not remember other illnesses in her life.
She said that the 14 days of isolation was not boring. She had mild chest pain which lasted for a day. Prajapati had no other known health issues.
"Her recovery has become a confidence booster for everyone. Other members of the family also tested positive for the virus, but we are surprised and elated over the news," said Prajapati's son, Indrabahadur, who's also the chairperson of Madhyapur Municipality – 6. "My elder sister, who is also in her old age, is quite hopeful now. This news made our entire community very happy," he added.
First, a grandson in the family was found infected. As tests were carried out, Prajapati and her son and daughter, Indrabahadur and Purnamaya, were also tested positive for the virus. While others have tested negative, Purnamaya is still infected.
During home isolation, the family included fish, meat, lentil, beans in their diet. They did not step out of the home.
"I feel that people should not fear corona. You should take proper diet and have peace and faith. You can overcome it by staying at home," said the grandmother.
Till Sunday, 600 among 815 people infected by COVID-19 in Madhyapur Thimi Municipality have already recovered. A total of 16 infected have lost their lives, according to the mayor of the municipality, Madan Sundar Shrestha. "The story of the old grandmother has made all of us extremely happy. This news should be hope to everyone amid the great fear of coronavirus," said Shrestha.
