13 of 15 people missing after attending funeral in Tilagufa identified

SURKHET, Oct 10: The identity of 13 of 15 people who were washed away by a landslide in the Karnali River while going to a funeral in Tilagufa Municipality-4 Rachuli of Kalikot has been revealed.

SURKHET, Oct 10: The identity of 13 of 15 people who were washed away by a landslide in the Karnali River while going to a funeral in Tilagufa Municipality-4 Rachuli of Kalikot has been revealed.


On Sunday afternoon, 15 people who had gone to the funeral at the junction of Kukur Khola and Karnali River were swept away by a landslide in Ranchli village.

According to the police, those who disappeared in the Karnali River along with the landslide are 47-year-old Kali Bahadur Shahi, 63-year-old Dhan Bahadur Shahi, 36-year-old Kshetra Jang Shahi, 28-year-old Khagendra Shahi, 23-year-old Bhesh Bahadur Shahi, 55-year-old Dhan Bahadur Shahi, 76-year-old Ali Shahi, 23-year-old Khemraj Shahi, 57-year-old Man Bahadur Shahi, 41-year-old Motilal Shahi, 56-year-old Par Bahadur Shahi, 24-year-old Naresh Shahi and 22-year-old Prashant Shahi.


SSP Madhan Prasad Shrestha, information officer for Karnali Province Police Office, said that the incident was reported to the police only around 7AM on Monday. "All of them disappeared in the Karnali River due to the landslide that occurred during the cremation," he said.


Par Bahadur Shahi, ward chairman of Tilagufa Municipality Ward No 4, Rachuli, is also missing. After the death of local Hemraj Shahi on Saturday, about 70 people had gone to his funeral on Sunday.
