KATHMANDU, Jan 16: The number of those who were injured in a stampede at Tudikhel in Kathmandu on Monday has reached 16.
The stampede took place in separate programs organized by the Magar and Tharu communities at the venue, marking Maghe Sankranti, the first day of the Nepali month of Magh as per the lunar calendar, according to District Police Range Kathmandu Spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Kumud Dhungel.

Dhungel said that the injured were admitted to the Trauma Centre at Bir Hospital for treatment. According to the police, people were injured when they were pushed and shoved while entering and exiting the festival site.
The injured are 12-year-old Trisana Magar, 12-year-old Anjana Tamang, 19-year-old Regina Ghale, 16-year-old Nikita Magar, 30-year-old Rekha Chaudhary, 16-year-old Anisha KC. Similarly, 25-year-old Kalpana Chaudhary, 22-year-old Mandira Basnet, 40-year-old Meena Thapa, 19-year-old Riza Resmi Magar, Constable Prithvi Buda Magar, 25-year-old Nisha Rana Thapa, 22-year-old Nirmala Shrestha, 27-year-old Rashmi Nepal, 11-year-old Unika Baral, 14-year-old Karishma Magar, are also among the injured.
