18th General Assembly of OANA concludes with five-point Tehran Declaration

TEHRAN, Oct 26: The 18th General Assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) held in Tehran, the capital of Iran, ended with a five-point declaration.

TEHRAN, Oct 26: The 18th General Assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) held in Tehran, the capital of Iran, ended with a five-point declaration. 


The Tehran Declaration passed by the General Assembly today states that cooperation between the news agencies of OANA member countries will be promoted to fight against fake news. The credibility of the news and reports produced by the news agencies will be increased.


Likewise, OANA member countries will not convey political opinions in a way that affects their professional duties and respect the right of readers, viewers and listeners to receive true and factual information.

In the declaration, the OANA member countries have also expressed their commitment to work together to address the difficulties that may arise in the cooperation between the news agencies.


Similarly, it has been mentioned that OANA will be in contact in person and virtually to express their commitment to achieve the target based on the decisions made by the agencies of OANA member countries.


In the same way, commitment to continue the exchange of new circumstances and experiences among the OANA member countries has also been expressed in the declaration.


The General Assembly has elected Managing Director of Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) of Iran Dr Ali Qadri as the President of OANA. 


The Executive Chair of the National News Agency (RSS) represented Nepal in the General Assembly. A total of 60 delegates including directors, managers and editors of news agencies from 35 member countries of the Asia-Pacific region took part in the four-day General Assembly.
