Nepal plays a draw against Bangladesh in football as it is left without a medal in Taekwondo

HANGZHOU (CHINA), Sept 29: Nepal played a 1-1 draw against Bangladesh in women's football under the 19th Asian Games, 2023. 


In the match held at the Wenzhou Olympic Sports Center here on Thursday, Nepal came from behind to win a point against Bangladesh. Rekha Paudel scored in the 83rd minute of the match, assisted by Sabitra Bhandari. 


Earlier, Bangladesh took the lead with Sabina Khatun scoring the first goal of the match in the 44th minute. Both Nepal and Bangladesh were defeated in their previous two matches. 


In the first match of the group stage, Nepal was defeated by Vietnam 0-2 and in the second match 0-8 by Japan. Similarly, Bangladesh lost to Japan 0-8 and to Vietnam by 1-6.

Nepal sans medal in Taekwondo


Nepal is left without a medal in taekwondo at the ongoing 19th Asian Games. 


In Thursday's match in the 80 kg group, Nepal's Jacky Yadav lost 2-0 points to Jordan's player. With this defeat of Yadav, Nepal's hope of getting a medal in taekwondo has been shattered. A total 11 Nepali athletes had participated in taekwondo. 


Earlier in the 49 kg group, Anjali Tamang was defeated, and in the 63 kg group, Gobinda Ale. Nepal has been unable to win medals in taekwondo since 2006. Before that time, Nepal won a silver and 13 bronzes in taekwondo at the Asian Games. 


Nepal started with a win in badminton at the 19th Asian Games. Nepal reached quarter-finals in badminton after defeating Mongolia 3-1 sets won in badminton. 


In the men's category, a pair of Prince Dahal and Sunil Joshi defeated the team of Mongolia. Similarly, in the men’s double, a pair of Bishnu Katuwal and Prince Dahal won. 


However, in the women's double category, Nepal lost 3-1 sets to Maldives. A pair of Nepal's Rasila Maharjan and Anu Maya Rai lost the match. ---
