200,000 Nepalis went abroad in search of employment in the first seven months of current FY

KATHMANDU, March 12: More than 200,000 Nepali citizens have gone abroad in search of jobs in the first seven months of the current fiscal year beginning mid-July. The number of Nepalis seeking final labor permits (institutional and individual-new and legalized) for foreign employment has increased significantly.

KATHMANDU, March 12: More than 200,000 Nepali citizens have gone abroad in search of jobs in the first seven months of the current fiscal year beginning mid-July. The number of Nepalis seeking final labor permits (institutional and individual-new and legalized) for foreign employment has increased significantly.


According to a report, a total of 200,102 Nepalis have gone abroad in search of employment till mid-February this year. The number has decreased by 85.4 percent as compared to the same period last year.

As of mid-February, a total of 152,325 Nepali people have taken re-employment permits. The number of people seeking re-employment for foreign employment has increased by 266 percent.


In the seven-month report of the current fiscal year released by Nepal Rastra Bank on Friday, the remittance inflow decreased by 4.9 percent to Rs. 540.12 billion. The remittance inflow had increased by 10.9 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year.


Likewise, in US dollar terms, the remittance inflows declined by 5.8 percent to Rs 4.53 billion. Such inflows had increased by 6.8 percent in the previous year. Net transfer decreased by 4.2 percent to Rs. 603.73 billion during the review period. Such transfers had increased by 8.9 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year.


The tendency of the working-age people leaving for foreign employment is not considered good for the country. Although the number of people going abroad for work has increased lately, the inflow of remittance has come down.
