22 percent physical progress in Arun III

KATHMANDU, August 4: The Arun III Hydropower Project based in Sankhuwasabha district has reported 22 percent in physical construction . The 900-megawatt project is being developed by the Satlaj Jal Vidyut Nigam owned by the Indian government. Company's newly appointed Chief Executive Officer Arun Dhiman today called on Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barshaman Pun and apprised him of the progress made in the Arun III implementation.


The Minister stated the government had built an investment-friendly atmosphere, hoping the project would complete within the deadline. He also wished for the successful tenure of the new CEO. He also pledged all required facilitation to take the project ahead smoothly. The CEO vowed to complete the project in time. He added the twenty-two percent progress including 12 percent in regard with tunnel construction had been achieved so far.

As per the agreement, 21.9 percent of the total power production, will be provided to Nepal free of cost. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi had jointly inaugurated the project. It shall come under the ownership of Nepal after 25 years of the commencement of production.
