KATHMANDU, Feb 26: Sana Kisan Bikas Laghubitta Bittiyasanstha Ltd is holding a five-day 2nd Small Farmers Summit in Kathmandu from Thursday.
Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on Monday, the organizers said that the summit would bring together over 1,200 participants including 1,000 small farmers, experts, planners and stakeholders to discuss on the theme of 'bringing prosperity of small farmers by transforming agriculture and developing entrepreneurship'.
The summit will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli on Thursday and conclude on March 1, according to the organizers.
Small Farmers’ Summit kicks off
The first summit was organized in 2014.
Asian Development Bank (ADB), United Nations Capital Development Fund, Agricultural Development Bank are the co-organizers of the summit.
The major objective of the summit is to contribute on transformation of the country's agriculture sector through promotion of entrepreneurship among smallholder farmers, according to Shree Krishna Upadhyay, chairperson of the organizing committee of the Small Farmers' Summit-2019.
He said that 28 working papers will be presented in 14 various sessions that will cover wide range of issues ranging from poverty alleviation, elimination of hunger, employment generation, environment conservation and sustainable development goals.
“We believe that the summit will create synergy in institutional and sustainable development of small farmers, production and productivity enhancement of agriculture sector, processing, marketing and value chain development,” said Upadhyay.
Khem Bahadur Pathak, vice chairperson of the organizing committee, said that summit will also benefit planners and policymakers to frame congenial policies for translating the vision of the government – 'Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali'.
