4 Indians held with 5.8 kg gold at TIA

KATHMANDU, April 5: Police arrested four Indian nationals from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Thursday with 5.814 kg gold smuggled from Thailand.

KATHMANDU, April 5: Police arrested four Indian nationals from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Thursday with 5.814 kg gold smuggled from Thailand.


According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishna Prasad Koirala, they were detained from the parking area upon arrival from Bangkok on Thai Lion Air flight to Kathmandu. Those arrested are Jatin Jain, Sunita, Babita Garg and Sarita Jain, according to police.

“They were found to be smuggling the gold covering it with iron and other metals,” said police officer Koirala.


The smuggled gold is worth Rs 29.6 million in the Nepali market.


Police have kept them into custody at Gausala police station. After the authorities increased security surveillance at the country's only international airport, the smugglers have been changing their modus operandi to smuggle gold into the country from various countries.
