56 candidates file nominations for KMC mayor

KATHMANDU, April 26: A total of 56 candidacies have been filed for the post of mayor in Kathmandu Metropolis for the local level poll scheduled for May 13. Similarly, the number of candidacies filed for the post of deputy mayor stands at 31.

KATHMANDU, April 26: A total of 56 candidacies have been filed for the post of mayor in Kathmandu Metropolis for the local level poll scheduled for May 13. Similarly, the number of candidacies filed for the post of deputy mayor stands at 31.


Among 56 candidates, 21 represent political parties while 35 are independent candidates. Eight women have filed candidacies for the post of mayor.

Among 31 candidates filed for the post of deputy mayor, 12 represent political parties and 19 are independent ones. Among them, 12 are women candidates.


The nomination filing time was scheduled for April 24 and April 25. On the first day of filing, 16 candidates filed their candidacies for mayor and 17 for deputy mayor post.


According to Chief Election Officer in Kathmandu district Raj Kumar Khatiwada, a total 1,262 candidacies were filed at all levels. Among them, chiefs (mayor/chairperson) were 125 and deputy chiefs (deputy mayor/vice-chairperson) 56. For ward chairperson, there were 334 nominations; 191 for women members and 129 for Dalit members.
