Over 61,000 receive work permits in a month

KATHMANDU, March 20: Although the government has announced that it will provide employment opportunities within the country by ending forced foreign employment, more than 61,000 people have taken work permits to go to foreign employment between mid-February and mid-March.

KATHMANDU, March 20: Although the government has announced that it will provide employment opportunities within the country by ending forced foreign employment, more than 61,000 people have taken work permits to go to foreign employment between mid-February and mid-March.  


According to the statistics of the Department of Foreign Employment, 61,845 people received new labor permits, re-employment permits and individual labor permits in a month’s time.

The Department of Foreign Employment has said that out of the labor permits obtained in a single month between mid-Feb and mid-March, the maximum number of 19,824 people received work permits for Malaysia, 11,303 for Qatar, 9,795 for United Arab Emirates, 9,503 for Saudi Arabia, 2,462 for Kuwait, 2,227 for South Korea and 1,700 for Romania.


The number of unskilled workers obtaining work permits for foreign employment is significant. In February, 13,580 unskilled workers received work permits. According to the department, 42,718 skilled, 5,449 semi-skilled, 68 professional and 30 highly-skilled workers have received work permits.
