6th National Rating Chess Tournament from April 3

KATHMANDU, March 24: Lalitpur District Saving and Credit Cooperative Association and Tamrakar Society Lalitpur with the help of Lalitpur Sports Club are set to organize the Ganeshman Singh Memorial Cooperative Cup Sixth National Rating Chess Tournament from April 3. 


Speaking at a press meet organized in the capital on Friday, the organizers informed that the tournament will be played on the occasion of 61st National Cooperative Day. 


The organizers further informed that a total of 100 participants are expected in the tournament and it will be the first rating chess competition held in Nepal.

The tournament, which will be played at the Tamrakar Samaj Bhawan in Jawalakhel, is played in league cum knockout Swiss league format, will feature 11 rounds of matches. 


The top four from the first seven rounds will advance to the super knock out. 


The eight-day tournament will reward the winner with a Saluto Yamaha bike, while the second, the third and the fourth will be prized with Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. 


The remaining players of the category will then play in the super league and the winner will be rewarded with Rs 25,000, while the second, the third, the fourth and the fifth will receive Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, Rs 8,000 and Rs 7,000 respectively. 


Likewise, the players finishing from the sixth to the 10th place will get Rs 6,000 each, and the players from the 11th to the 15th place will bag Rs 5,500 each and the players from the 16th to the 20th place will be rewarded with Rs 5,000. 


Also, the winner of women’s category will take home Rs 10,000, while the runner-up to the fifth place finishers will be rewarded with Rs 8,000, Rs 7,000, Rs 6,000 and Rs 5,000 each. 


Likewise, the first placed player of U-19 and veteran categories will be prized with Rs 5,000 each, while the winner and the runner-up of unrated category will be given Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
