81 people from seven provinces receive trekking guide training

POKHARA, May 25: To reduce the shortage of manpower in the tourism sector, the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has trained 81 people from the seven provinces as trekking guides. They were given training for 35 days.

POKHARA, May 25: To reduce the shortage of manpower in the tourism sector, the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has trained 81 people from the seven provinces as trekking guides. They were given training for 35 days.


Trekking guide training was provided with the support of the Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP) jointly run by the NTB and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) Training.

The training included a combination of theoretical and practical topics on trekking, geography, environment, Nepali religion, history, intercultural tourism behavior, trekking and mountain climbing, trekking safety, risks, etc.  


Dhananjaya Regmi, chief executive of the NTB and the national director of the project, said that the board has been organizing such training sessions at various times to reduce the shortage of manpower in the tourism sector. He said that such training will create employment opportunities as well as self-employment. Maniraj Lamichhane, director of the NTB, and national program coordinator of the project, said that theoretical and practical classes were conducted to make the training practical.  


People from all over the country were invited to participate in the training. Dharam Dawadi, the project's livelihood expert, said that the participants were selected through interviews after the number of people who wanted to participate in the training was large. The participants of the training were trained by 20 trainers of various disciplines.
