981 complaints related to loan-sharking settled in Bara

KATHMANDU, April 17: In a period of about one year, as many as 981 complaints related to loan-sharking in Bara district have been resolved through mutual agreements.


In collaboration with the District Administration Office, Bara, and the police, disputes arising from these complaints have been settled by agreement between both parties involved in loan-sharking.

According to the police, a total of 3,322 complaints were lodged with the District Administration Office (DAO), Bara, and the Nepal Police since April 30, 2023.


The cumulative amount demanded in these complaints totaled Rs 323.63 million. However, police reports indicate that settlements were reached through agreements amounting to Rs 193 million.


Furthermore, based on agreements, the DAO, Bara has returned 89 plots of land, comprising a total area of 25 Bigha 13 Kattha 7 Dhur.


Following repeated demonstrations by victims of loan-sharking and unfair transactions in the capital, the government formed a commission led by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki to investigate issues related to loan-sharking. The commission has already submitted its report to the government.
