KATHMANDU, June 25: Participants at a discussion program here today have spoken of the need to ensure all community schools in the country are technology-friendly.
At the programme jointly organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT), Nepal Telecom Authority (NTA), Joint-Secretary of the MoCIT Baikuntha Aryal asserted that the Ministry has highly prioritized to ensure access of Information Technology (IT) in all community schools across the country.
"The school management, as well as the teachers in community schools across the country, are asked to employ IT as much as possible for the teaching-learning activities."

According to Joint-Secretary Aryal, of the total 35,000 community schools under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST), only 8,174 schools have computer science classes of which only 35 percent have internet facilities.
The MoEST aims to ensure the computer science classes are to be incorporated in the curriculum of all community schools having internet facilities too.
Similarly, Joint-Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Dr Dipendra Raman Singh shared that the MoH was effortful to ensure telecommunications technology and internet services in health sector, referring telemedicine being practiced in the country.
Likewise, Director General at the Department of Information Technology, Laxmi Prasad Yadav, said that a directive was prepared to make sure all the government employees exchange information through government's mail system.
Digambar Jha of Nepal Telecom Authority said that the NTA had paid attention to expanding internet facility to all places across the country.
Senior Executive Director of NTA Anandaraj Khanal shared that the money collected in the Rural Telecommunication Development Fund would be spent in the development and expansion of telecommunications.
Former Minister Ganesh Shah spoke of the need to emphasize expansion of IT in rural areas of the country. RSS
