KATHMANDU, Oct 31: Nepali A Division Club New Road Team (NRT) with the financial support of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) is set to construct a training ground in Tarakeshwar of Kathmandu.National Sports Council (NSC)’s member-secretary Keshav Kumar Bista laid the foundation stone at the construction site on Tuesday.
The AFC had provided US$ 300,000 to construct three mini football pitches of 20×40 dimension in Nepal, following which All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) had called district football associations and clubs to apply for the project. Three projects have been awarded in three districts: Kathmandu, Makwanpur and Nawalparasi.

Two A Division clubs including Sankata and NRT had applied for the Kathmandu-based project. NRT has taken a land on lease from Sacred Heart School for ten years in order to construct the ground.The fund provided by the AFC will bear the expenses of construction of the pitch and the surrounding fence, while the club will have to bear the cost of lease of land.
Since ANFA is compulsorily implementing club licensing in Nepal from 2018, as per the provision of AFC, each of the first division clubs of Nepal must have its own training ground.
NRT’s President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya said that the construction of the training ground would not only provide his club’s players to train regularly but also encourage young kids to learn playing the sport.
On the same occasion, ANFA President Narendra Shrestha said that in the absence of big grounds, such mini football pitches would help in the production of talented young players.
“We are not able to construct bigger grounds due to many reasons, so such mini pitches will be helpful to groom young footballers,” said Shrestha.
