KATHMANDU, July 12: The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has agreed to include the issue of fixing the salary scale of school employees in the Federal Education Act. The agreement was reached following negotiations with teachers and staffers' unions.

The community school employees have been staging a relay hunger strike in Maitighar for a month, demanding an increase in perks and benefits, and maintaining new positions.

General Secretary of the School Staffers Council, Shantinath Yogi, said that the government has agreed to table the law in the ongoing session of the federal parliament and mention the salary scale in the law itself.

While fixing the salary scale, it has been agreed that accountants will be given the same benefits as kharidars and office assistants will be given the same benefits as the rank-less employees. A report on the agreement was handed over to Education Minister Ashok Kumar Rai by the talks committee earlier today.

The Ministry of Education will make a recommendation to the Ministry of Finance based on the report. General Secretary Yogi said that if there is a delay in the introduction of the law, the government will provide equal perks and also give inflation allowances. Office-bearers of the Nepal Teachers Association also participated in the talks.

The Ministry had formed a talks committee under the leadership of Director General of Education and Human Resource Development Center, Chudamani Poudel.
