Air pollution levels in Kathmandu off the charts; AQI spikes to 319 μg/m3

KATHMANDU, April 5: Air quality of the Kathmandu Valley deteriorated again on Monday.


The air quality, which reported slight improvement after a spell of winter rainfall on Wednesday last week, reported a severe deterioration even from midnight when almost all activities are usually shut.

According to the hourly pollution data collected from 17 various monitoring stations located at different places of the Kathmandu Valley, the Valley breathed the worst air in the morning between 7 and 8. The fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) reading was measured at 319.69 micrograms per cubic meter (μg/m3) during that time period.


Government had shut all the educational institutions for days --- Tuesday to Friday last week--- owing to the poor air quality.
