RAUTAHAT, Nov 14: Lawyers of the main accused in the 2008 Rautahat bomb blast, Mohammad Aftab Alam, have argued that Alam is being framed due to his political views and that the case is 'baseless' and should be scrapped. Four lawyers pleading on behalf of Alam said this during the hearings at the District Court, Rautahat on Wednesday.
During the hearing, former attorney general Raman Shrestha said the media and the police have been meting out injustice to an 'innocent' Alam. "There is nothing but political bias at play in the whole episode. The incident, which is claimed to have happened 12 years ago, never happened," he argued. He also claimed that there is no evidence of the incident and that the case should be dismissed.

Shrestha further stated that the then government lawyers and the office of the attorney general had already dismissed the case and claimed that police re-opened the case with an ill-intention.
Other lawyers of Alam, Lalbabu Raya Yadav, Sanjeev Mallik and Ajay Patel reiterated the same points while demanding that Alam should be set free.
Alam has hired a total of 35 lawyers from Kathmandu and Rautahat to plead on his behalf. So far, only 12 lawyers have pleaded in the court.
Alam was elected lawmaker from Rautahat Constituency–2 in the first Constituent Assembly elections in 2008. But he lost the second CA elections in 2013. Later, he was however elected to the federal parliament in 2017 from the same constituency.
Alam was arrested following an order of the Supreme Court. On May 29, 2012, the Supreme Court, revoking the decision of the Office of Attorney General and District Attorney Office (DAO), had ordered thorough investigate into the case.
