KHOTANG, June 30: Just like most other youths, Kopila Basnet Karki, 24 of Diktel Majhuwagadhi Municipality-4, Khalle dreamt of landing a government job. Since the past few years, she, along with her husband Prakash, had been preparing for the Public Service Commission exams and in April, both of them landed forest guard jobs in Solukhumbu.
The entire family celebrated their success. The couple was very happy. But the happiness was not to last long. On Friday, Kopila along with six others on board a jeep were killed in a road accident in Salyan of Solukhumbu. The jeep in route to Salleri from Salyan of Nechasalyan Rural Municipality-2 veered off the road and plunged some 600 meters from a cliff. The incident site is on the border of Solududhkunda Municipality-11, Tingla and Salyan, near Gupteshwar Mahadev temple.
All six people on board Manang Air chopper killed in crash
According to the District Police Office (DPO), Solukhumbu, there were altogether seven people travelling in the jeep and six of them died on the spot while one died in the course of treatment. The other deceased have been identified as jeep owner Shyam Kumar Rai, 42 of Mamkha, Okhaldhunga; driver Kushang Tamang, 21 of Shirishe of Udayapur; Shiva Kumar Yadav, 36 of Siraha; and Urmila Bastola, 35, and Sushila Khadka, 25, of Salyan. Six people had died on the spot.
Sushma Khadka, 8 of Nechasalyan-2 died in the course of treatment at Phaplu, police said. Sushma was Sushila’s sister. The cause of the accident is not known. “There was nobody around at the time of the accident and none of the passengers is alive. So, it has been difficult for us to know the reason,” said Police Inspector Adhikari.
