KATHMANDU, March 23: Due to grappling fear of outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Nepal, people are found to have terrorized either in the lack of proper knowledge or psychological issues. Most of them either child, young or old; educated or illiterate seem to need to have proper psychosocial support and consolation in this situation of fear and confusion.
To address the issue, some psychotherapists and counsellors, mainly Kathmandu based have offered volunteer counselling support to the individuals who are in need. The individual session would be 45 minutes long. It is intended to reach out to needy people in the form of emergency support. If they need more than one session, they can consult with their respective therapists/counsellors.
Talking to Republica Online, Ganesh Amgain, a therapist, informed that those sessions will be available on need-basis, exclusively through online as physical proximity is strictly restricted.
“Availability of our group of therapists/counsellors depends on the mutual timing of individuals who need support during the day. One can reach us through Viber, WhatsApp or Skype,” he added. The sessions would be solely focused on issues related to coronavirus. He emphasized the prior booking of the sessions so that the counsellors could manage the time accordingly.
