KATHMANDU, June 30: Chief of Army Staff Rajendra Chhetri is leaving for New York on Friday on official visit to the United States and United Kingdom.
According to a press statement issued by the Directorate of Public Relatons of Nepal Army (NA), CoAS Chhetri is scheduled to participate in the second chiefs of defense conference of troops contributing countries being held on July 7. The conference will be addressed by UN Secreatry General Antonio Guterres and other dignitataries.
Army Chief Sharma leaves for UK
During his stay in New York, he will have separate meetinngs with Under Secretary General at Directorate of Peace Keeping Operation and Military Adviser of Secretary General Guterres and Force Commanders of UN peace missions in South Sudan and Congo.
Defense Secretary Shreedhar Sapkota will also be accompanying CoAS Chhetri during these meetings.
According to the statement, CoAS Chhetri will spend five days beginning Friday as home leave in Boston. COAS Chhetri's delegation comprises his spouse Rita Chhetri, and members from the army.
After the conclusion of his US visit, CoAS Chhetri will travel to the UK at the official invitation of UK's Chief of General Staff General Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter on July 10. Chhetri will hold meetings with General Carter on July 11 and visit regional commands as well as other units of the UK army. Lieutenant General Bal Dev Raj Mahat will work as acting chief of the army until the return of CoAS Chhetri on July 15.
