Army Club reaches semifinal

DAMAK, March 6: Departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club has defeated fellow departmental team Armed Police Force Club in the quarter-final to secure its place in semi-final of the ongoing Jhapa Gold Cup on Tuesday.

DAMAK, March 6: Departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club has defeated fellow departmental team Armed Police Force Club in the quarter-final to secure its place in semi-final of the ongoing Jhapa Gold Cup on Tuesday. 


Army registered a commanding 3-0 win to make it to the final four of the football tournament. Tanka Basnet (46th minute), Santosh Tamang (82nd), and Nawayug Shrestha (83rd) registered their names in the score-sheet.

Basnet converted a rebound from Tek Bahadur Budhathoki’s attempt to open the floodgates followed by a direct free-kick by Tamang to double the lead late in the match. Similarly, Shrestha added the third goal of the match after comfortably beating opposition goalkeeper Bikesh Kuthu.


Player of the match Tamang received a cash prize of Rs 15,000. Departmental team Nepal Police Club will face Three Star Club on Wednesday. Home team Jhapa XI has already qualified for the semifinals.
