Army fixes title date with MMC

SARLAHI, March 27: Tribhuvan Army Club has set the title clash of the Rajarshi Janak Cup Football Tournament with Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC).



Army overcame Armed Police Force (APF) 3-0 in the second semifinal of the tournament played on Monday at Bagmati in Sarlahi. 


 Following a goalless first half, Army netted all three goals after the break in the departmental derby. George Prince Karki broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute and Seshraj Mahato doubled the advantage in the 74th minute. Tanka Basnet sealed the victory for the departmental team in the stoppage time with third goal.

Army goalie Maheshwar Shrestha who made some heroic saves was declared the-man-of-the-match and awarded Rs 5,000. 


Army will vie with MMC, which overcame Himalayan Sherpa Club 2-0 in the first semifinal on Sunday, in the summit clash on Tuesday. It will be the fourth meeting between the two sides in the final in the current season. Both the sides have won three titles each in the season. The winner will walk home with a purse of Rs 400,000 along with the winners' trophy.
