KATHMANDU, Oct 11: Joint General Secretary of Nepali Congress(NC) Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, who is currently on a visit to India, said that since Nepal and India have a centuries-old close relationship, it is natural to have some problems arise in the relations between the two countries.
Addressing a program organized at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi on Sunday during his visit to India, he said, “Nepal-India relations have existed for hundreds of years in many fields including religion, economy and culture. Being so close, it is only natural to feel misunderstood at times.”

He added that being very close sometimes leads to misunderstandings and disputes, so all these issues should be resolved at the negotiating table by both sides.
He said that the relationship between the two countries should be strengthened on the basis of trust. Dr Mahat, who is also a former foreign minister, said that the misunderstanding between the two countries had increased due to the unstable and immature foreign policy of the previous KP Oli-led government.
He also said that the current government would pursue a balanced and mature foreign policy with its neighbors and the world community based on trust.
