KATHMANDU, Aug 18: The 2018 Asian Games kicks off today at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta of Indonesia. Indonesian President Joko Widodo is scheduled to inaugurate the 18th Asian Games at 6:15 pm Nepali standard time today.
The multi-sport event is scheduled to be held from 18 August to 2 September in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang. Indonesia is hosting the event after 1962.
13 South Asian Games formally kicks off today
A total of 80 delegates including athletes, trainers and officials are representing Nepal in the inaugural session. The team will be led by Minister for Youth and Sports Jagat Bahadur BK.
Altogether 11,500 athletes from 45 countries are taking part in the Asian Games. A total of 185 athletes from Nepal are competing in 29 game categories including archery, athletics, basketball, football, karate, judo and paragliding among others.
Nepal has competed in all but two of the Asian games and has so far won 23 medals including one silver and 22 bronze. RSS
