KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Charitable organisations collected and distributed relief materials to the Chepang settlement of Rorang Rural Municipality in Dhading district this winter with the objective of providing humanitarian support to the disadvantaged and economically backward people.
Fifty-five students of a local school, Bhagishwari Basic School, who were affected by the devastating earthquake of 2015, were provided with various materials including school dresses, warm clothes and stationary items under the initiative of Caritas Luxembourg and Pourakhi Nepal.
No poll ambiance in Chepang settlement in Dhading
Majority of the school children belong to the underprivileged Chepang community. Most of them are forced to go to school on barefoot and with old and torn clothes without sweater in winter due to their poor economic condition.
Likewise, elderly citizens, single women and some locals living under extreme poverty also received quilts, rice, oil, salt and soaps among other materials. Locals in the village are considered as the poorest people among Nepal's poor. They struggle for their livelihood and most of them are deprived of even basic needs.
The distribution program was organized with the financial assistance from various organizations. The distribution took place in the presence of Rorang-2 ward chair Tanka Thapa, school management committee chair Harka Bahadur Tamang and Rotary Club Maharajgunj President Dr Jaya Bahadur Tandan.
