KATHMANDU, April 4: An Australian citizen has died in the Khumbu region of Solukhumbu.


According to the Tourist Police Office Lukla, 63-year-old Valence Phillips Thomas died on Monday in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-2 Ratmate.

According to Sub-Inspector of Police Purna Dahal, in-charge of the office, Thomas, who came down to Lukla Airport from Manthali in Ramechhap on Sunday, was preparing to go to Sankhuwasabha from there.


He said that he fell on the uphill road while walking and died during treatment.


Three Australian citizens along with Thomas, under the leadership of Yogbahadur Karki, a Nepali guide, proceeded from Lukla to Tumlingtar in Sankhuwasabha via Mera Peak.


The legal process of the dead body for repatriation has been completed. Police said that they are preparing to take his body to Kathmandu by helicopter on Tuesday.
