Australian mountaineer Allie Pepper to climb Mt Annapurna without oxygen

KATHMANDU, March 9: Australian mountaineer Allie Pepper is set to climb Mt. Annapurna without oxygen. She is going to climb Annapurna-1 this spring without using oxygen.

KATHMANDU, March 9: Australian mountaineer Allie Pepper is set to climb Mt. Annapurna without oxygen. She is going to climb Annapurna-1 this spring without using oxygen.


Pepper, who is also a former guide, has the goal of climbing 14 mountains of 8,000 meters high in the world without oxygen within the year 2026. At a press conference organized in Kathmandu on Saturday, Pepper said that she is about to climb Annapurna-1, the world's 10th highest mountain (8,091 meters). She is about to climb Mt. Annapurna without oxygen through the Seven Summit Treks of Kapan.

Pepper, 48, said she aims to encourage women to overcome their own challenges and overcome them. "Because of my own climbing style, I am confident that I will achieve my goal in the time I set," she said. She said that there is a plan to climb other three mountains including Annapurna-1 in Nepal this spring season.


She has 23 years of experience in mountain climbing. She started her journey to climb mountains without oxygen in 2007 from Mt Cho Oyu in Tibet. Pepper successfully climbed Broadpeak on July 15, 2023 and Manaslu on September 28, 2023. She is also the first Australian woman to successfully climb Broadpeak without oxygen.


So far, only six people in the world have climbed all 14 mountains higher than 8,000 meters without oxygen. Among the 14 mountains higher than 8,000 meters in the world are Everest, Ketu, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Nanga Parbat, Annapurna-1, Gasharbram-1, Broadpeak, Gasharbram-2, Shishapangma.
