POKHARA, Dec 9: Nepal secured historic silver medal in men’s archery during the 13th South Asian Games (SAG), in Pokhara on Sunday.
Nepal’s Sanat Malla and Imayung Rai collected 140 points in the compound 40m mix, eight runs less than Bangladesh’s total points in the final. Bangladesh’s Sushmita Banik and MD Sohil Rana collected winning points for visiting team.
Out of total 10 golds, Bangladesh has won six so far in compound, men and women; recurve, men and women; and recurve mix, men and women.
Two golds for Nepal in Asian Cross Country Championship
Similarly, in team event, Nepal's Min Prasad Gauchan, Sanat Malla and Yogendra Sherchan secured bronze medal by a point in a nail-biting fashion. Nepal collected 208 points followed by Sri Lanka’s 207 points. In the same event, Bangladesh won the gold medal with 225 points against Bhutan’s 214 points. In women’s compound event, Nepal was presented bronze medal after Bhutan gave a walk-over on the day. Nepal team had Monica Rana Magar, Manju Bajgain and Imayung Rai. Bangladesh won gold defeating Sri Lanka in the final.
In men’s category for recurve, Bhutan ousted Nepal on points despite having same score at the end of the event. Nepal and Bhutan were locked at the score of 28 before completing the event medal-less. Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka to secure gold medal.
In women’s category for recurve, Nepal was denied bronze medal after Bhutan secured with two scores more than the home team. Once again, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka to secure gold.
Similarly, in mix category for recurve, Nepal missed another bronze medal losing to Sri Lanka. Nepal team had Ayesha Tamang and Roshan Nagarkoti. Bangladesh continued its gold barrage defeating Bhutan in the final.
