Bagmati Chief Minister Ashta Laxmi Shakya seeking trust vote

Ruling party leaders said it is almost certain that Shakya will not be able to garner the required majority votes in the Provincial Assembly. The opposition alliance in the Bagmati Province Assembly has already proposed CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Rajendra Pandey as the new Chief Minister of Bagmati Province.

KATHMANDU, Oct 21: Bagmati Chief Minister Ashta Laxmi Shakya is taking a vote of confidence in the provincial Assembly today.


The Provincial Assembly meeting is currently underway to conduct the crucial voting. The alliance led by Nepali Congress (NC) will form a new government if Shakya fails to garner majority votes.


Ruling party leaders said it is almost certain that Shakya will not be able to garner the required majority votes in the Provincial Assembly. The opposition alliance in the Bagmati Province Assembly has already proposed CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Rajendra Pandey as the new Chief Minister of Bagmati Province.

After the split of the ruling CPN-UML, the Shakya-led government fell into minority, requiring her to take a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly.


Shakya, who was considered to be close to the Madhav Nepal-led faction in the UML, chose to stay with the CPN-UML even as Nepal registered the CPN (Unified Socialist) party at the Election Commission.


The Shakya-led government is in minority after 13 UML provincial assembly members chose to be part of the Nepal-led CPN (Unified Socialist) in the Bagmati Provincial Assembly.
