KATHMANDU, Nov 10: National Coordinator of CPN Unity National Campaign Bam Dev Gautam has urged the US government to withdraw the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) project from Nepal.
Issuing a statement on Wednesday, Gautam, a former leader of CPN-UML, urged the US government to withdraw the grant arguing that it was not immediately possible to endorse the MCC Compact Agreement through parliament.

"The government which has been formed in the difficult circumstance in Nepal now and the composition of political parties that exists in parliament, Nepal government and parliament do not seem to have a favorable situation to endorse the agreement," he has said in the statement. "In this circumstance I humbly make a request before the Nepal government and the US government to withdraw the MCC project."
Gautam has further requested the US government to unilaterally withdraw the MCC grant keeping in view of the current political situation in Nepal. The statement of Gautam comes in the wake of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba announcing to endorse the MCC compact agreement through majority votes in parliament as political parties within the ruling coalition are also sharply divided whether to endorse the MCC compact agreement through parliament.
