KATHMANDU, April 16: Banks provided interest-subsidized loans worth Rs 215.76 billion in the first eight months of the current fiscal year.
The records with Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) show that a total of 144,620 individuals received the aforementioned amount of loans during mid-July 2021 and mid-March 2022. The amount is Rs 156.19 billion in excess of the issued loans under heading in the entire year of 2020/21. Banks provided subsidized loans of Rs 161.43 billion to 104,109 individuals last year.

The central bank has maintained credit under 10 headings under subsidized loans. It is mainly targeted to promote agricultural production and entrepreneurship among youths.
During the review period, banks issued loans of Rs 137.76 billion, 63.86 percent of the total subsidized loan amounts to commercial farming including livestock production. Similarly, Rs 74.17 billion was provided in concessional loans to women entrepreneurs.
