KATHMANDU, Sept 25: Tangiyabasti located in Jitpursimara Sub-metropolitan City-16 of Bara has been electrified. The area had not been electrified for years because of the construction of the proposed Nijgadh International Airport. Because of this, the residents of Tangiya were forced to live in the dark.
Electricity supply has been connected to Tangiyabasti since Saturday after the line was delivered with an investment of about Rs 23.4 million from Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). There are about 1,476 households in Tangiyabasti.
We are heading towards prosperity through complete electrificat...
A high-level team including Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal, Secretary of Energy, Directors of the NEA, Managing Director of the NEA Kulman Ghising visited Tangiyabasti last February and discussed the issue of electrification with the locals.
The team promised that Tangiyabasti should not be kept in the dark and that the process of electrification should be carried forward immediately. The Ministry of Energy then requested the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) to give consent for electrification.
The MoCTCA agreed that 'the residents of that settlement will have a written commitment to leave the area during the relocation before the construction of the second international airport, so that the electrification work can be carried forward in that settlement'.
Ramu Shrestha, head of Simara Distribution Center of NEA, said that the new lights were installed in accordance with the agreement given by the MoCTCA.
