Some people give up eating sweets and carbs while others stop drinking alcohol when they try to lose weight. But one man’s love for beer has turned it completely into something else.
J. Wilson, a 38-year-old editor from Iowa decided to abstain himself from all solid foods and just drink beer for 46 days straight. Wilson did this to see if he could emulate German monks of the 16th century who lived solely on liquid beer during Lent. Wilson teamed up with a brewery to create his own doppelbock (liquid beer) that would sustain him for 46 days. Wilson lost 11 kilos by the end of his 46-day beer diet.

Food for fitness
No doctor or expert would recommend you to have just beer for 46 days straight. Even Wilson experienced headaches, flagging energy and swollen tongue during the diet. He even developed hyperkalemia (elevated potassium), which is a dangerous condition for the heart. He also had increased creatine level, which indicated that his body was burning protein.
A 12 ounce serving of beer contains 288 calories and was completely unfiltered. Thus, it has plenty of yeast and B Complex Vitamins making it a nutritious brew. Wilson had four beers on weekdays, while five on weekends.
Verdict
Wilson’s diet (the beer diet) consisted of 4,288 calories per day. Talking about regular diets, most of them are less than 1,200 calories per day. Additionally, Wilson had no intention of losing weight with this diet and doesn't recommend it himself.
We would also recommend you to skip the beer and opt for a healthy diet along with regular workout for healthy and sustainable weight loss.
