The 13 percent value addition tax is also charged on the increased seven rupees. Due to this, the price of beer will increase by Rs 10 per 650 ml bottle.

Despite the increase in excise duty, the beer producers are satisfied. Their analysis was that amid weak economic conditions, the government would massively increase the excise duty on beer. However, they were happy when it increased only by three percent. Last year, the excise duty was increased by 20 percent.

The increased excise duty rate will come into effect from Tuesday.
