Bharatpur people have to wait for some more days to see full restoration of power supply

CHITWAN, May 22: The power supply system in Bharatpur Metropolis that was disrupted by the recent windstorm is yet to be fully restored. The storm hit in the late evening of Friday and uprooted trees and electric poles.

CHITWAN, May 22: The power supply system in Bharatpur Metropolis that was disrupted by the recent windstorm is yet to be fully restored. The storm hit in the late evening of Friday and uprooted trees and electric poles. 


According to Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Bharatpur distribution center, 140 electric poles collapsed during the high wind and it will take five days more to restore them completely and resume the power supply at a regular pace. As Center chief Rajib Kumar Singh said, electric wires have snapped at various places as the poles have collapsed and the Center has mobilized its entire technical team and hired other teams as well to restore the structures.


Power supply has been already reinstated at hospitals, security agencies, vote counting venues for the May 13 local polls, and drinking water supply stations with much priority.

There is an issue in the power distribution from the Bharatpur sub-station and there is no problem in the Chanauli substation, according to center engineer Rajendra Poudel.  


Bharatpur, Narayanghat Bazaar and areas up to Ratnanagar Kharihani in eastern Chitwan are marred by power disruption problems. 


The windstorm caused an infrastructural loss of Rs three million for the NEA and disrupted the consumption of power worth Rs  50 million.


The disruption of power supply for three days has affected the mobile phone, water and internet services.


Three people lost their lives to storm-caused incidents while 11 others were injured. The storm brought down many trees at major areas in the city, damaging the electricity structures.
