Birgunj reports 75 new cases of coronavirus

BIRGUNJ, Aug 9: As many as 75 persons including chief of the health division at the Birgunj Metropolitan City, Arun Kumar Mahato, nine police personnel and three staffers at the Narayani Hospital tested positive for COVID-19.

BIRGUNJ, Aug 9: As many as 75 persons including chief of the health division at the Birgunj Metropolitan City, Arun Kumar Mahato, nine police personnel and three staffers at the Narayani Hospital tested positive for COVID-19.


The new cases of coronavirus were detected during tests conducted at the Narayani Hospital Lab on Saturday midnight, according to Dr Madan Kumar Upadhayay, the medical superintendent at the hospital. Of the newly-infected, eight have coronavirus symptoms.

Of the total new cases, 29 were recorded in course of contact tracing of previous cases while 11 others underwent tests voluntarily.


Of the infected, one is an official at the Indian Consulate Office in Birgunj.


Earlier, the mayor of Birgunj Municipality Vijay Kumar Sarawagi, Chief Executive Officer Pradip Nirauala and few staffers of the municipality tested positive for COVID-19.
