JUMLA, Sept 12: The body of Nepalese Army (NA) Major Bimal Pandit, who was missing for the past 16 days, was recovered in the Bheri River on Tuesday.

Major Pandit's lifeless body was found on the bank of the Bheri River near Chinde Bagar in Karbagad of Tripurasundari Municipality-5, Dolpa.

A local resident Sibamal Sarki of Tripurasundari-5 was first to notice the body while he was fishing in the Bheri River. He had then promptly reported the discovery of the lifeless body to the Khadang police station.

Sarki noticed a watch on the left hand and a ring on the little finger of the right hand of the body nestled between two stones as he suspected that the body could be of the NA officer missing for more than two weeks. He immediately stopped fishing and went to inform the local police about the body.

Upon receiving the report from Sarki, the local police at Khadang notified the District Police Office, Dolpa about the lifeless body. Under the guidance of Deputy Superintendent of Police Shiva Budhathoki, a team led by Major Ravi Shah of the Nepalese Army, equipped with rescue gear, arrived at Chinde Bagar, the location where the body was found.

Budhathoki confirmed the identity of the deceased by the watch and ring worn by Major Pandit. He said that arrangements are being made to transport the corpse to the District Hospital, Dunai, for a post-mortem examination.

Major Pandit, 38, was stationed in Dolpa before he went missing on August 10. He was originally from Danchhi in Kageshwori Manohara Municipality, Kathmandu.
