Fifteen-year-old Bikash Thakur can be seen wandering around Basantapur area every day. He is originally from Darbhanga, India and is currently living at Jaisideval, Kathmandu.

His physical disability doesn’t stop him from being a cheerful person. He often makes conversations with the passersby to kill his free time. Despite wanting to study, Bikash doesn’t go to school because of his disability.


“Though both my brothers go to school, I pass my days roaming around Basantapur. Not one school would admit me because of my special needs,” he said. He loves watching movies and his favorite actor is Salman Khan.  He also said, “I learnt to speak and understand English by watching a lot of Hollywood films.” His smile certainly warms the hearts of those who sit to have a chat with him.
