KATHMANDU, July 10: Breaking all past traditions and hierarchy, Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa on Friday visited Nepal Police Headquarters in Naxal to congratulate the newly-appointed chief of Nepal Police, Shailesh Thapa Chhetri.

This is the first time an army chief has visited the police headquarters to extend greetings to the newly-appointed police chief. Since the army chief is above the police chief on the ladder of hierarchy, there is a tradition of the newly-appointed chief of Nepal Police to visit Nepal Army Headquarter in Bhadrakali after appointment.

During the meeting, the chiefs of army and police organizations held discussions on the issues of mutual interest and possible cooperation and coordination between the two security agencies, according to Nepal Police Headquarters.

On the occasion, Army Chief Thapa handed over some useful books and a Khukuri that serves as a symbol of national security in Nepal. Police Chief Thapa Chhetri, in turn, handed over a memento as a token of love to the army chief.

Former IGP Upendra Kanta Aryal appreciated the gesture of the army chief to visit Nepal Police headquarters to extend best wishes to the newly-appointed police chief. "The decision of the army chief to reach the police headquarters to congratulate the newly-appointed police chief defines his great heart and demonstrates his attachment toward Nepal police. The strength of love, affection and brotherhood is the greatest strength," he wrote in his Facebook post.
