Budha wins Nepalgunj marathon

NEPALGUNJ, Nov 21: Durga Bahadur Budha of Jumla won the third edition of the Nepalgunj Marathon on Tuesday. 


Budha completed the race in two hours, 26 minutes and 58 seconds. Remaining seven places of the top eight were grabbed by the athletes of departmental teams. Khadak Bahadur Khadka of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) claimed the second place clocking two hours, 27 minutes and 20 seconds while third placed was claimed by Ganesh Singh Thakuri of Armed Police Force (APF) completing the distance in two hours, 28 minutes and 35 seconds. The top three players were rewarded with Rs 55,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.

Similarly the players completing the race in fourth to eighth places got Rs 10,000, Rs 8,000, Rs 7,000, Rs 6,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. 


TAC’s Reshu Basnet won the women’s half-marathon completing the distance in one hour, 24 minutes and 45 seconds. Similarly, Chandra Rawat and Krishnaswori Sintakala grabbed second and third places respectively. TAC’s Rawat clocked one hour, 28 minutes and six seconds while and Armed Police Force (APF)’s Sintakala completed the race in one hour, 30 minutes and seven seconds.  The top three athletes in women’s half-marathon were rewarded with Rs 30,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. 


In five kilometers boys’ and girls’ events, Jumla’s Naresh Budha and Ram Maya Budha won the tittles. Naresh Budha completed the race in 17 minutes and 15 seconds to win the boys’ title while Ram Maya Budha clocked 19 minutes and 42 seconds to grab the girls’ trophy. 


Bibek Kathayat (Jumla) and Arbind Chhetri (Banke) came in the second and third places of the boys’ section while Amrita Bhandari (Jumla) and Chandra Kumari (Salyan) grabbed the second and third positions in the girls’ section. In the wheelchair category, Kamal Budha secured the first place while ThankuTharu and Deepak Darai finished in the second and third positions respectively.
